Through fifty years of epic stories, art, and personal ephemera, The Fletcher Family spans surfing's golden era to the present day, when bathing-suit model Dibi and competitive surfer Herbie met, to raising talented Christian and Nathan on boards and waves, to passing the torch to their skating-phenom grandson, Greyson.

Herbie Fletcher is a surfing legend. Fletcher and his sons, Christian and Nathan, made a habit of doing things exceptionally well and in their own way before they became the norm. But the Fletchers are not merely trailblazing surf and skate legends; they also are counterculture and subculture icons. T Magazine referred to them as having "punk family values." Their sincere love for art and surfing and their collective DGAF attitude has earned them legions of devoted fans and friends from so many different worlds: music, fashion, streetwear, and art.

The epitome of both surfer cool and punk counterculture, the Fletcher family for the first time has put together a window into their immensely colorful life. A visual memoir of this near-mythological surf family, The Fletcher Family is sure to appeal to their massive surfing fan base, young skaters, and those who are interested in the Fletcher family and their place in Southern California as a subcultural force of nature.

A jaw-dropping photographic display of the world of big wave surfing, featuring the biggest and most dangerous waves and the legendary men and women who risk their lives to surf them.

Over the last decade, a handful of surfers have been progressing the sport of big wave surfing to new extremes. Kai Lenny, one of the preeminent big wave surfers, offers readers a glimpse into this world. Lenny shares his personal stories and perspectives, and invites over 30 elite surfers—from legends who pioneered the way, to young guns who are the future of the sport—to contribute personal tales of the greatest waves ever ridden.

These are the stories we’ve been waiting for: Shane Dorian pushing the boundaries in the gladiator arena of Pe‘ahi (Jaws), Maui; Peter Mel on riding the greatest wave ever caught at Mavericks, California; Keala Kennelly breaking the women’s glass ceiling at the death-defying slabs of Teahupoo, Tahiti; Kai Lenny and Lucas Chumbo’s groundbreaking wins at the incredible Nazaré, Portugal; Brett Lickle’s epic incident at the mystical Pyramids with Laird Hamilton, and many more. Accompanying stunning photographs from the world’s top surf photographers capture the drama of life and death, and the unwavering commitment of these brave extreme athletes.

“Stand up, up, UP!” is the mantra of Surfers for Autism, an organization that runs surf events for children with autism, providing the opportunity to not only catch waves, but to become part of a supportive surfing community.

It is also a message to all those struggling with autism: a message to stand up, no matter how hard it gets. Waves of Healing collects the stories of a group of everyday families who discovered Surfers for Autism in their search for hope, answers, and healing for their children with autism.

These are stories about the struggles children with autism face—the struggle to stand on a surfboard, the struggle to communicate, the struggle to make progress in a world which accepts “normal” and rejects all else. But they’re also stories of breakthroughs, of authentic joy and unbridled excitement as they learn to see their world from a whole new perspective—standing tall atop a surfboard, riding a wave all their own.

Exploring new avenues of therapy for those with autism, with therapeutic and extraordinary results, Waves of Healing is a snapshot of hope, courage, and human perseverance.

ABOUT WOMEN MAKING WAVES

A visually stunning journey across the world’s oceans, featuring soulful surfers living with purpose

Award-winning wave photographer Clark Little shares his most remarkable photographs from inside waves, with a foreword by world surfing champion Kelly Slater. Published by Ten Speed Press (a Penguin Random House imprint), this is Clark's first book to be released across the US and all over the world.

Surfer and photographer Clark Little creates deceptively peaceful pictures of waves by placing himself under the deadly lip as it is about to hit the sand. "Clark's view" is a rare and dangerous perspective of waves from the inside out. Thanks to his uncanny ability to get the perfect shot—and live to share it—Little has garnered a devout audience, been the subject of award-winning documentaries, and become one of the world's most recognizable wave photographers.

Clark Little: The Art of Waves compiles over 150 of his images, including crystalline breaking waves, the diverse marine life of Hawaii, and mind-blowing aerial photography. This collection features his most beloved pictures, as well as work that has never been published in book form, with Little's stories and insights throughout. Many of the photos are from the North Shore of Oahu, with additional pictures from the outer Hawaiian Islands (Maui, Kauai and Big Island), California (Newport, Laguna and Malibu), French Polynesia, Tonga, and the Galapagos Islands. Journalist Jamie Brisick contributes essays on how Clark gets the shot, how waves are created, swimming with sharks, and more.

With a foreword by eleven-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater and an afterword by the author on his photographic practice and technique, Clark Little: The Art of Waves offers a rare view of the wave for us to enjoy from the safety of land.

Take a breathtaking plunge into the colorful world of the Coral Triangle, the waters that cradle Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste. One of the world’s most mature reef networks, home to 30 percent of all the world’s coral, this magnificent marine expanse boasts the highest diversity of coral and fish species on the planet. Underwater photographer Chris Leidy beautifully captures a vision of this wonderland through his lens and conveys the inherent complexities of each singular, fleeting scene, illustrating the vital magic of the Coral Triangle.

Comprising the most biodiverse ecosystems on our planet, oceans are humanity’s life-support system, processing more carbon dioxide than rainforests. Featuring a passionate text by Fabien Cousteau, The Coral Triangle presents the underwater world as a complex realm filled with vibrant life, inviting readers to fall in love with its majesty, and inspiring deeper understanding of the fragility of coral reefs and the unparalleled importance of taking action to protect our oceans.

What's it about? Purpose. Connection. Impact. These are things everyone longs for. In Dropping In, Shane Sebastian provides keys for how to have them. Despite what you might think, this book is not about surfing, well not primarily. It’s about embracing the life God intends for us all — a fulfilling life of purpose, a life of connection, a life of impact.

On the cover: Multi-disciplined surfboard artisan Joe Roper. Features inside the book include a Mexican wave zone lost to time and interest, a glacial-fed A-frame, and a surf playground amid an atomic testing range. The animation and comic paneling of cartoonists Stephen Hillenburg and Roy Gonzalez, plus the creative outputs of Josh Martin, Denis Stock, and Nate Lawrence add additional facets and textures.

On the cover: Human corona—Mikey Wright at Off The Wall. Features inside the book shed light on a rivermouth sandbank in equatorial Africa, the swamps and inlets of Florida, and a foundational headland on the East Coast of Australia. The pitfalls of modern surf forecasting, the mind-space of a slab-hunting fireman, and the irreverent outputs of artist Paul McNeil mark other points of conference.

On the Cover: Greg Long in the far Eastern Atlantic, perhaps contemplating the benefits of length over height. The noted XXL-hunter journeyed toward African waters for the sole purpose of burning rubber down this quarter-mile, sand-bottomed drag strip. Check out the guts of the issue to read more from this trip. Various other points and personas also included within.

On the cover: Matahi Drollet navigates the hydro prism at Teahupoo. Pinpoints inside the mag drift from the frozen river mouths of Iceland to a sultry pier in India. More than seven years in the making, A Secret History of the Ollie tells in part, how a small, unheralded group of skaters revolutionized skating around the world. Although the no-handed aerial skateboard maneuver known today as the Ollie is nearly 40 years old, its influence on skateboarding remains, and has never been surpassed.

The 1970s were not just the Dogtown era, but skateboarding's Golden Era. The Z-Boys were an important part of the emerging American skate scene during the 1970s, but they weren't the only scene. In the state of California alone, besides Santa Monica and Venice, there were many other hot spots. Some of those included San Diego, Salt Creek, Vista, Upland, Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, Oxnard, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco—all equally influential and significant for the skaters and innovations they delivered.

But far, far away from California, on the Gold Coast of Southern Florida, thousands of miles from the control of the skateboard industry and media, there was another tale unfolding. More obscure and under the radar, the Florida scene would have a dramatic and immeasurable impact on skateboarding, allowing it to literally take flight. It all started with the invention of the Ollie, a magical no-hands aerial and the signature move that would forever change skating.

Created in 1978, the Ollie, without a doubt, is the maneuver that changed skateboarding for all time. In A Secret History of the Ollie , author, photographer, and skater Craig B. Snyder follows this revolutionary no-handed skate trick from its humble beginnings in his hometown of Hollywood, Florida, to the present day in this new historical multi-volume work with an origin story as dramatic and magical as the move itself.

Illustrated in color throughout, A Secret History of the Ollie is not just the story of the Ollie, but a history of skateboarding like no other. Over 1200 images and photographs, many of which have never been published before, accompany 912 pages of some of the more crucial moments in skating history.

On the cover: Arthur “Toots” Anchinges summons the spirits of Rabbit, Ah Choy, and Bird's Nest at Queen's Surf, Waikiki. Features inside the book commune with punk rockers and mutated golems, ex-pats in the Atacama Desert and beastly surf in the Eastern Atlantic. Underwater imagery from Everton Luis and the modernist subjects of John Respondek bookend the experience.

On the cover: Having broken his favored shooter, Santa Cruz surfer Wilem Banks runs the diagnostics on an even lower-tide Scottish session on a borrowed board. Inside the book, further odysseys follow a team of daredevils to the glacial outfalls of Alaska, a crew of Indonesian boat-in pioneers through the revelation of Desert Point, and director Bruce Brown’s still-camera inside the most impactful surf movie ever assembled. Technical analysis of the asymmetrical surfboard, and a deep batch of imagery from the frontlines of the professional surf arena, add motion and ballast.

On the cover: Pulse advent. “Ocean swells travel separate paths for thousands of miles,” says photographer Trent Mitchell. “I’m interested in the displays of chaos and synergy at this point of union.” Features inside the flap rove from an urban surf-scape in the Middle East to an examination of artificial waves—and their existential impacts. A Hawaiian bodysurf Mecca, an archipelago in the South Pacific, two visual/spatial artists, and a horde of full-bleed surf imagery offer waypoints of interest.

Here are bungalows, trailers, cabins, and beach homes where surfers retreat after a day on the waves.

Peek inside the homes of longtime enthusiasts and dedicated newcomers that reflect not just a sport or passion, but also a way of life. Blake and Heather Mycoskie of TOMS, hotelier Sean MacPherson, Gypset author Julia Chaplin, and others have set up their spaces to embrace a casual ease and be the break between the waves.

With vibrant photographs of design details and bright beaches—from Malibu to the Rockaways, from Japan to Australia—this book captures the soulful milieu of a lifestyle we all aspire to.
