The Iconic Shoe that Brought our Sidestripe to Life: This is the Old Skool

 

The Old Skool was our first footwear design to showcase the famous Vans Sidestripe—although back then, it was just a simple doodle drawn by founder Paul Van Doren. Since its debut in 1977, this low-top silhouette has established itself as an icon in the skate, music, and fashion scenes. From 90s street skaters and punks to current hip hop and fashion legends, the Old Skool has consistently been the go-to shoe for creatives who do things their own way.

Style 36 was Vans’ first Sidestripe shoe brought to life in 1977. Though the Vans Sidestripe has since become the unmistakable—and instantly recognizable—hallmark of the Vans brand, back then it was just a random doodle drawn by founder Paul Van Doren. It even had a different name: the “jazz stripe.” To honor the style that launched an icon, the Style 36 has been re-released with classic canvas and suede uppers paired with gum-colored sidewalls for a vintage touch.

The Authentic VR3 SF combines our original low top silhouette with the Vans Surf SF build to create an upgraded, comfortable lace-up style. Featuring collapsible heels for versatility and washed uppers made from 50% organic cotton canvas and responsibly sourced leather, the Salt Wash Authentic VR3 SF fuses modern and vintage detailing for a twist on the ultimate heritage style.

Inspired by adventure, the Teller Vintage Unstructured Hat is a 6-panel hat with a vintage, unstructured construction and embroidered artwork at the front. A checkerboard flag at the back ties into our skate classics footwear branding.
