Capiz are farmed in Indonesia and every bit is used. The pieces are carefully sorted, dried, sliced, shaped, sanded and dyed. The thin, flat translucent pieces of capiz provide luminous color.
In the 1500s, capiz were used as windowpanes in houses; now they are used in all sorts of home decorations, including lampshades and vases and (of course) windchimes!

Each piece is individually hand carved and handcrafted. Coconut and bamboo are used to make these instruments of nature. In addition, each chime is hand-toned by musicians. Testing the sound of each tube, the musician/craftsmen create chimes that sound as good as they look. By hand-toning each tube and selecting a range of sizes, they ensure that each chime will produce a unique melody.
